Take the time to watch this. A very important video.

my body, the buddhist - Deborah Hay
A guest teacher told us to purchase this book. I read the forward by Susan Foster and was left confused, ungrounded and disappointed by the impracticality I found. Today I cracked open the book again (that to our frustration was never used in class) and I have discovered invaluable insight into being a dancer. I will begin posting interesting snippets and themes I find in Hay’s writings.
“I see through a filter of what I know, instead of what I do not know, and so the awe is gone.”

To young dancers, I want to say: Do what you feel you are, not what you think you ought to be. Go ahead and be a bastard. Then you can be an artist.

The cocooned trees are a side-effect of spiders escaping flood waters in the area. Although people in this part of Sindh have never witnessed this phenomenon, they report there are now less mosquitoes, thus reducing the risk of malaria. Photo: Russell Watkins/Reuters

Ruth St. Denis - a modern dance pioneer

The great mission of the dancer is to contribute to the betterment of mankind. The highest function of the dance is to ennoble man’s concept of himself. This cannot be accomplished until the creative artist, whatever his field, becomes aware of himself as a citizen of the world and of his responsibility to lead instead of follow, to unfold instead of repeat, and to bring self-realization to its highest point of expression. Some illuminated seer has proclaimed that the artist of the day is the prophet of tomorrow. But in order to attain the fullest self-realization through the dance, we must understand that the arts—not just dancing but all of them—are never a religion in themselves, never objects of worship, but are the symbol and language for communicating spiritual truths.
